Thought inspiring concepts of natural movement

During my natural movement – Tai Chi training the past week, I have been learning about various terms and concepts, such as natural movement, moving freely with ease and comfort; awareness – being sensitive and responding to the environment; being an originator, instead of copying – even if it means trying to copy who you were yesterday.

Concepts that have really been stirring things up inside of me. For a while now, Europe has been evolving into a very hostile and dangerous place – especially for women. We have gotten used to so many liberties that have been fundamental values for decades, such as women being equal, essential contributors and decision makers in society, wether it be the economy, politics or culture, etc. – Europe’s greatest achievement throughout history. Values that took a long time and many courages individuals to establish.

Following and applying the concepts I have been learning about, this will be my/our first post, aiming to start a conversation. It is important that we recognize our environment and the changes that have been happening, and not just look away or ignore them. If we don’t start opening our eyes, discard our guilt (especially we Germans) from what has happened in the past – and with this I don’t mean neglecting or denying it – we will loose the freedom and equality we have so successfully been able to root in our society and consciousness.

We need to allow our selves to appreciate our culture and the togetherness we have been flourishing and be proud of it.

For this it is essential to look at our current situation from an objective and kind place, so that we are able stand up for our rights and values and preserve them. This includes the right to perform critique without being reprimanded and bullied by our fellow citizens.

MARIO ASEF
»Sozio-Phonon«
Sound-Installation for six loudspeakers
Using field recordings from a wide range of sources, the Sozio-Phonon project combines specific acoustic events in a global relationship to one another. The installation unite a number of distant places in a single “here and now,” where the individual acoustic social particles can no longer be pinned down according to location.
A phonon is a quasiparticle used in theoretical solid-state physics to describe quantum mechanically the characteristics of acoustic vibrations in crystal. Phonons are delocalized, i.e. a phonon exists in the overall crystal lattice and keeps from being assigned to a specific location.

MARIO ASEF filming the video for urban art project TEJIENDO PUEBLO

We are proud that Mario Asef was part of the wonderful project

“Tejiendo Pueblo” (“weaving village“),

an urban project of in situ textile art  produced by the group of women “Fé y Esperanza” (“Faith and Hope”), the colony of proletarian liberation in Santa Fe, Mexico city and the group of collaborators “Identities-Textile art project”.

Through filming this video, Mario Asef was able to capture the consequences of urban development, the sensitivity of the affected inhabitants, their love for their environment and determination in bringing awareness and expressing their protest in an aesthetic way by using traditional hand crafts..

NIKA FONTAINE and INCOGNITO in WIDEWALLS MAGAZIN!!

Screenshot 2017-04-25 12.04.58wildpalms is a borrowed name from Faulkner’s book “The Wild Palms”.  When the book was published, it surprised the audience. Something was new: into a novel 2 independent stories were narrated. The book changed the way we read, the way literature is produced and the way culture understands how time and place are being constituted. We produced exhibitions with our artists to reach new levels of discourse in society and the arts. We believed strongly in a better future thanks to the cultural work, the artist’s labor, the honest work. This great text explains perfectly the statement and strategies in our latest exhibition “incognito”.

“Spirituality is at the core of my practice,” Fontaine says, “but decoration and kitsch
are other important aspects. I want to use these to create something over the top.”
Fontaine’s paintings negotiate the influence of her great-uncle, Plasticiens painter
Jean-Paul Jérôme: “I was always surrounded by his paintings as a child. They are
very beautiful, well-composed and classical Modernist works—but they made me
want to create something more active and challenging to viewers, something aggressive.
I love playing on the edge of good and bad taste.” – Sam Cotter

„Nika Fontaine has said that her interest in kitsch materials comes mainly from aesthetic preference. She is not afraid to be decorative. This is an artist skilled in blending high and low-brow art; her use of materials such as velvet and tasseled curtains would send an artist less bold running in shame. There is a good sense of humour, both about the role of the artist and about herself, which successfully lightens the mood of work that many could find “woo-woo” or taking herself too seriously. They’re fun, light-hearted, pretty and just serious enough. […]they add some humour and playfulness to a show […] so effectively mesmerizing.“ – by Kara Williams
