El primero que ría brings together twelve years of work rooted in the intense and enduring human relationships the Mexican artist has built with his protagonists: El Flama, his family, and his friends, with particular attention to the complex social topography of Iztapalapa in Mexico City.
El Flama and his circle belong to a social world marked by marginality, insecurity, and informal labor. His body bears scars that testify to the harsh realities of life on the streets of a metropolis.

Through humor, the ability to laugh at oneself, relationships established on equal terms, and the risks shared between artist and protagonists, El primero que ría integrates El Flama and his family into the aesthetic agency of the work without reducing them to ideology or politicization.
The work avoids pedagogy and moralism. Instead, it emphasizes color, materiality, and facture as formal vehicles through which aspects of the human condition become visible.
Across video, photography, painting, and printed matter, Mauricio Limón de León explores friendship, family structures, the body, and sexuality in continuous dialogue with the urban and rural landscapes of Iztapalapa.
