Roberto Uribe Castro: Trabajos Inacabados

Trabajos Inacabados was the first monographic exhibition by Berlin-based Colombian artist Roberto Uribe Castro. Trained as an architect and as an artist at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin, Uribe Castro works with historical events and communities that have disappeared from mainstream narratives.

For more than two years, Wild Palms collaborated with Roberto Uribe Castro through workshops, installations, competitions and a podcast. Trabajos Inacabados brought this continuing dialogue into his first solo presentation at the gallery.
The exhibition presented works from the preceding years, centred on the series Seringueiros: deep-black sculptures made from shredded car tyres, formed as cubes that appear slanted and cracked. The works address the exploitation of rubber in the nineteenth century and the violence inflicted upon Indigenous populations. The Irish-born diplomat Roger Casement documented and publicly exposed these human-rights abuses.
Across his practice, Roberto Uribe Castro returns a voice to individuals, communities and artistic structures that have been displaced from dominant historical accounts.
