Andreas Steinbrecher: “Ruf der Trompeten”
Andreas Steinbrecher: Call Of The Trumpets

Andreas Steinbrecher
Solo Show
Opening January 17th 2025, 6-9pm
Over the past year and a half, we have closely followed Andreas Steinbrecher artistic development, observing the evolution of his creative strategies. Central to his practice is the constant reflection on the relationship between the artist’s hand and the support, a fundamental aspect of his work. This exploration of the line—a motif deeply rooted in the history of painting—continually re-emerges in Andreas’ work, driving the development of his pictorial language.
What distinguishes Andreas Steinbrecher approach is the agility and flexibility with which he investigates new possibilities in his search for the stroke. Few artists are willing to challenge and transform such an essential element of their artistic identity. His recent work Ruf der Trompeten reveals this bold evolution. Andreas’ innovation in “Ruf der Trompeten” is determined by an earlier mastery of the stroke that allowed him to develop a soft, warm, pictorial membrane on the canvas, to move on to a stroke that expands the canvas introducing a dynamic energy that transcends the two-dimensional space of the support.
This expansion manifests in two distinct movements: a concentric shift that draws the gravitational center inward, and an outward, expansive force that seems to break through the boundaries of the canvas itself. These pictorial strategies not only demonstrate Andreas’ technical command but also call for a deeper dialogue about the innovative pictorial approaches currently emerging from Düsseldorf.
Born in Kazakhstan in 1984, Andreas moved to Germany with his parents at the age of four. Coming from a family of craftsmen, his talent and passion for drawing were recognized early on. Despite this, he first pursued a degree in graphic design at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, which he successfully completed. After working as a freelance designer, Andreas chose to further his artistic development by enrolling at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 2017. Studying under Professor Thomas Scheibitz, he completed his degree in spring 2023.
